First of all Happy New Year! I am asked to relay the following message to you from the Greens' Committee. In support of the intensive efforts being made to the golf course, we would welcome your support when playing during these wet winter months. Please avoid walking over churned up/boggy areas. Please avoid taking short cuts across Medal Tees (e.g. 16th to 17th). Please avoid walking between the main greens and the greenside bunkers. Please replace your divots...even from the rough! Please challenge those who 'forget'. In return, Paddy & his team are regularly checking to see how foot traffic can be better directed and they will also change hole locations on the winter greens more frequently. They may also reposition winter tees again should the need arise. Finally, please be patient. It may well prove necessary as a last 'resort' to temporarily remove certain holes from winter play. It is better to play some holes than to have the course closed altogether.
The next copy of the Chairman of Greens newsletter is available and can be found in the Course Greenkeeping section on our website found under the 'Course' drop down.
'Play prohibited from the Fairways'.
With effect from Friday December 2nd 2011 play from the fairways is not permitted, other than to play ‘little' chips to a green.
As in previous years this additional Local Rule is being implemented to avoid excessive damage to the fairways.
Players must therefore lift, clean & place their ball from the fairway not nearer the hole on either side of the fairway. The Local Rule covering ‘preferred lies' has now also been amended to allow for such relief ‘through the green' (i.e. anywhere).
THE COMMITTEE SINCERELY THANKS ALL PLAYING MEMBERS FOR ADHERING TO THIS ‘RULE' OVER PREVIOUS WINTERS. IT DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO PLAY DURING THE SEASON. PLEASE CONTINUE TO REPLACE YOUR DIVOTS EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY BE IN THE SEMI OR THE ROUGH!

The Pro's Sweeps
Over the winter months, Alan will again be running the Men's Saturday 4BBB Competitions - The Pro Sweeps. Following this season's success of the sweeps on Wednesdays, these too will be offered. The Wednesday competitions are for ALL members.
Following the success of previous years, the following will again apply this winter to the Pro Sweeps:
Winners (and equal scores): Minimum 2 shot reduction each
Runners up: Minimum 1 shot reduction each
As before this is outside the handicap procedures as laid down by CONGU and is for the purposes of the Pro's Sweeps ONLY. Members will start the 2012 golfing season with their correct ‘active' CONGU handicap. Please note however that the scores are considered by the Handicaps' Committee as part of their work.
The men's ‘Pro's Sweep Handicap' master list will be kept in the foyer
Play well,
Peter Harrison (Captain)
Our club captain for 2011-2012 Peter Harrison
